In early 2016, I went traveling to Morocco. Café des Épices was recommended to me and it’s a must-go if you are in Marrakech. Located deep within the medina, in a two story building, this place is warm and full of light. Moroccans are very talented at transforming their rooftops into beautiful and cosy terraces, and this place is no exception. The wide industrial windows on the second floor give a modern vibe to the space and let the view play a key role.
Locally sourced furniture is made of natural materials and colourful cushions decorate the benches and chairs. I particularly like the contrast between the nicely detailed monochrome illustrations hung on the wall and the warm red colour palette. The words “Café des épices” have been stitched onto some straw hats, which are placed on tables and available to be used for some shade from the sun. Their logo is hand painted on the facade in great moroccan style.
There are two handsome restaurants named Nomad and Le Jardin also in the Marrakech medina, developed by the same owners and are definitely worth a visit.
